The papers of Stanley Matthews relate to his 30 year career in the U.S. Navy, 1910-1940. He served with the rank of chief water tender on the U.S.S. New Mexico, 1922-26. Folder 1 contains correspondence to and from the U.S. Navy concerning Matthews' pay, change of address, and qualifications. The folder also contains a letter relating a shared naval experience in Mexico. Folder 2 consists of information relating to the U.S.S. New Mexico and includes a pamphlet, a roster of officers, a ship's newsletter, and a menu. Folder 3 contains a roster of officers and crew on the U.S.S. Huntington, 1918, exam papers, a calendar of events and a leather packet of service and appointment papers.
